The +888 number: why you need an anonymous number
What TON blockchain numbers are, why they beat virtual SMS services and what to remember when the rental ends.
What it is
+888 is the prefix of anonymous Telegram numbers. They are issued on the TON blockchain and sold on Fragment. The number has no SIM card and no carrier: the confirmation code arrives inside Telegram and ownership is proven by a blockchain record.
Why it beats SMS-receiving services
A one-off number from an SMS service lives for minutes: an account registers on it, but you can never recover access and the number soon goes to someone else. A +888 number is assigned to its owner, and while it is yours you receive every login code.
What it is good for
- A second account that keeps your personal phone private.
- A work Telegram separate from your personal one.
- An account for working with bots and testing.
- Registering where you would rather not give a real number.
What to remember
A rental has a term. When it ends the number returns to its owner and you will not receive new login codes through it. So right after registration:
- Set a cloud password.
- Review active sessions.
- Decide in advance whether you will extend, if you need the account long-term.
What not to do with it
Do not attach banking services, work access or anything where losing the number means losing access. An anonymous number is a messenger tool, not a replacement for a personal phone.
